NoaNoa, famous Paul Gauguin’s manuscript
Despite their remote location and distance from the main continents, the Occident World has managed to reach these islands named the “New Cythera” by Bougainville as he was referring to the island of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love.
Recorded in the Logbook of a few major navigators such as Wallis, Bougainville, and later Cook, Polynesia had become not only a stop over for scientists and businessmen, but also a crossroad for artists and writers.
We invite you through the footsteps of Paul Gauguin – famous painter who was celebrated after his death … or those of Captain Cook, who reached the shores of the East coast of Tahiti to study Venus, hence the name of the famous Venus Point in Mahina where the only lighthouse made of limestone and coral has been built in 1867.
In a more contemporary period, there is also the home of James Norman Hall – author of “Mutiny on the Bounty” to visit. His residence was converted into a museum for the delight of literature lovers.
