In Tahiti, it is also possible to surf on the Web thanks to the cyberspaces settled in downtown Papeete.

You can go to the nearest post office to send a letter or a postcard to your family or friends.
The post offices of Tahiti are generally open from Monday to Friday from 07:15 am to 03:00 pm, with a service maintained from 03:00 pm to 06:00 pm for urgent operations.
French Polynesia has 88 OPT agencies spread over its 5 archipelagos. 2 weeks are necessary for mail delivery from Papeete to Metropolitan France.

To use your cellular phone in French Polynesia, it has to be at least tri-band. VINI is the only network for mobile telephony in French Polynesia for the moment. It uses the GSM 900 MHZ standard in the archipelagos of Society, Tuamotu, Austral and the Marquesas.
There are 2 ways to use the VINI network depending on whether your operator is a local line network partner or not.
In the first case scenario, you will only have to ask your provider to have the “international itinerancy” or “Roaming” service to thus remain in contact with your close relations without changing your SIM card.
In the second case scenario, it will be necessary to unblock your cellular phone in your country. You can do it in Tahiti but it will be more expensive (double).
Then, you have to buy a prepaid SIM card called VINICARD from a retail outlet registered by VINI preferably in Tahiti (or on other islands) or directly from the head office.

A phone number will then be allotted and it will be valid for 3 months without the need to recharge your credit.
International phone booths are also installed on several islands. Most of them are in Tahiti. They function with prepaid phone cards sold by some stores and all the post offices.
To call abroad from French Polynesia, you have to press:
00 (international access) + code of your country (ex: 33 for France, 1 for the United States of America and Canada) + the number of the correspondent (without the 0 at the beginning).
The costs of communication from French Polynesia to abroad (even to mainland France) are expensive, we advise you to limit your calls to our islands.
